Peter Shatz, DDS, FICD, FICOI
Dr. Shatz was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Periodontics at the Georgia Regents University in Augusta, Georgia, from 1996-2012. He has lectured nationally and internationally on topics of periodontics and dental implantology. He has numerous journal articles, textbook chapters, textbooks and has contributed extensively to the literature available on these topics.
Raymond van Gennip, DDS, MSD, FICOI, FDOCS
Dr. van Gennip holds dental degrees from both the University of Amsterdam,The Netherlands and Case Western Reserve University. He obtained his Masters in Periodontics in 1997 also from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He has extensive restorative and surgical experience in implantology, he is a graduate of the Pankey Institute. He is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and is also a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the European Federation of Periodontists and past Assistant Professor at Howard University. He maintains a private practice in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Course Objective
This two-day hands-on course includes lecture, discussion, videos of periodontal soft tissues procedures and a unique, hands-on training with freshly frozen cadavers. This lecture will cover diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue defects, root coverage and socket preservation. An overview of head and neck anatomy pertinent to each respective procedure, biology of wound healing, advanced surgical techniques and related periodontal plastic procedures. These surgical procedures will be taught with clinically proven step-by-step teaching procedural surgical guides.

- Indications & applications for different soft tissue grafting materials and their techniques

- Pre- & post-operative patient instructions; medical considerations, management of post-operative complications
- Surgical principles for successful soft tissue grafting
- Harvesting of masticatory mucosa
- Soft tissue grafting with palatal tissue
- Pedicle & transpositional grafting
- Techniques for use of acellular dermis around teeth & dental implants
- Acellular dermis for predictable root coverage
- Coronally repositioned pedicle graft
- Socket preservation using hard & soft tissue allograft material

Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:
- Describe anatomy and biology of periodontal tissues around natural teeth and dental implants
- Describe the procurement and processing of allogenic tissue for dentoalveolar surgery
- Identify indications and the application for acellular dermis grafting, palatal gingival grafting, subepithelial connective tissue grafting, soft tissue adjunctive procedures and socket preservation procedures
- Describe the types of soft tissue allogenic material available, harvesting of masticatory mucosa, and the various surgical closure materials and techniques
- Understand the most up to date techniques for successful placement of soft tissue allografts and autografts, and autogenous & allogenic root coverage
- Learn the rationale and use of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) as an adjunct to soft tissue grafting
- Describe the management post-operative complications
